Orlean and her husband used to live in Germany, where her husband was born and reared. They have often traveled there to visit his relatives. This book tells of their latest visit in July of 2016, during which time four acts of terrorism took place, all performed by Muslims, three who were newly arrived “refugees.” One was in a city the Koehles had just been in the day before.
They noticed a changing Germany after two million Muslim refugees were brought in. They also noticed the decline of Christianity in several nations they visited in Europe. So many beautiful churches are now standing empty only used for concert halls or museums or they are being transformed into mosques. Orlean had to teach a two-week unit on Islam in the 7th grade world history class as a substitute teacher and was appalled at the white-washed history of Mohammad and Islam in the text book, leaving out all the violence, pillaging, plundering, mass murders and slavery of millions that went on for centuries. Instead she was to teach a very pro-Islam propaganda course. She was supposed to have the students come dressed in Muslim attire, take a Muslim name, make a Muslim prayer rug, and memorize scriptures from the Quran. She did not do any of the above. What she did instead is written in Chapter 16.
